early

There is something about running in the early morning that I love. The world is a quieter place, people are few and far between, solitary and self-contained in a place of their own.

I love the serenity of it, the quiet streets, the calm waters, the sky fading through all the colours of night into day. There is a peace unparalleled in both the environment and in the run and, eventually, in the mind too.

Some days I wish I could stop time as it is, in those brief moments before day, on the cusp of that transition, before all the people and life and busyness and everything, and hold it there, in that quiet space.

I wish then I could run forever, just me and a world of perpetual dawn, lost to the run and the thoughts and the eternal peaceful quiet.
