It is 6.30am and in 3.5 hours I will be lining up with my friend Hayley to run the Forest of Dean half-marathon. I am tired, achey and feel not at all prepared. Helping my brother to move the contents of his home from one house to the other hasn't helped, and yesterday's dashing about has compounded it. My joints are sore, muscles ache, I feel slightly wiped out.
But still, I am looking forward to it. It will be fun! Harder than I hoped, but fun.
Barring injury, I will complete it. I am determined to.
13.1 miles through forest and along trails. 2 hours and 10 minutes of one foot in front of the other. It will be done. There is, as ever, only the run.
Let's do this thing.
