Hello!

Welcome to my blog, where I write about all manner of things...

extracts from post-muse - 1999-2000

The second of the extracts from the various collections of poems written in the late 1990s and early 2000s, this time from Post-muse. Unlike Muse this collection is a lot more varied, looking at the external as well as the personal.

bridge

curved talons

swathed in webs

shrouded

in sunshine

flirting skies

bathing waters

dreaming

of fogs

the passing

of tin voices

harmonious

the flashing

lights

breathing

introspection

brooding

in majesty

nested

between

islands

burnt in

red

born of

dreams

idol

or icon

to a

thousand

themes

golden

a bridge

***

fingertips and smiles

(i)

the flash of my attack

foiled

by the elegant defence

of your smile

(ii)

the scar

on my hip

has the trace

of your finger

tip

(iii)

the blue blue sky

distracted me

from the memory of your

smile

(iv)

the gunmetal gray

on your fingertips

reminds me

of the sullen crypts

amongst which

i used to stray

in a far off land

where angels play

and weeping children

stand

***

hidden

behind your voice

in the shadows

of what you say

a hidden thing

a child born of

something feared

in the way you pause

the silence

and the shades

of your tone

the whisper

that is your conviction

the emptiness

that colours words

squeals faint agony

in the tautness

of your voice

a simple need

for solace

stares out from behind

the shallows of

your laughter

little earthquakes

along the edge of your

world

echoing

the crying inside

waiting for something

someone

to turn their eyes

into the sun

and see the child

inside

to turn into the glow

to bear the heat

of your truths

clasp the hand

that cannot reach out

to walk a while

with the shadows of your

smile

and stand witness

to your self belief

to see

all there is

to see

***

I miss you

(i)

I miss the touch of you

the rasp of your tongue

the sometimes way

you bury your head

and the way you inhale

I miss the feel of you

hand linked in hand

arms entwined

on the long walk home

a world put to rights

I miss the sound of you

the creak of your bed

the arrest of your laughter

in the empty of the night

the silence of your dreams

I miss the smell of you

orange and lime

a showers repast

the intricate delicacy

of your skin, your kiss

I miss the sight of you

coiled like a child

with a flickering book

walking with purpose

reclined, reposed

I miss the taste of you

the innocence lost

the warmth of your cheek

a goodnight’s kiss

the morning’s smile

I miss the whole of you

this friendship we own

the whisper of you

that hides in my thoughts

that captivates my day

(ii)

I miss the silence

on the phone

between the silences

we say

the pause

between our thoughts

and the words we leave

unsaid

***

midnight in a bottle

death has a timely grace

she hunts

alone

her touch a silent chase

collects

a stone

from every mortal place

her kiss

atones

the haste of our unseemly pace

her thought

her own

the rememberance of every silent face

***

in the garden

winter’s dying edge

wraps around me

lovingly her kiss

upon my flesh

tenderly the touch

of her embrace

night’s eloquence

seduces me

demure her sultry

stars

hidden in the

shadows of her

moonlit rest

clad only in the

shift of her imagination

i stand alone

perplexed

***

never

i never asked for this

primed

fletched as an arrow

aimed

at an empty place

i cannot recall

or indeed divine

the moment

the gun was cocked

the sound of

the crunch of

an apple

halves falling gently

exactly

when did

it split asunder

cracked with

the pressure

of a sudden winter

seeping like

a tear

from my eye

a gentle rain

that washed me

away

when did i wake

from this slumber

caught in the web

of your consideration

fluttering

like a

buttercup

in the moonlight

the colours of your wings

smeared across

my lips

at what moment

did i

fall ?

***

photograph

a single moment

seen through the eye

captured and held

the simple breath

of a moment gone

painted in colours

defying memory

belittling the delight

of the mind’s sight

a wry commentary

subtly amused

at the image

in my head

that reflects and

distorts in its strokes

simple deviations

tainted by laughter

or tears or hope

empty of the texture

that incredible feel

of shadowy thoughts

where your smile

shone brightest

and made radiant

everything

to see with the eye

that belongs to another

the touch and the sight

brilliant and exact

that devolves

and demeans

all that I knew

the rememberance

so unsure

the dream that it is

that simple image

that detracts from my truth

***

steel

the steel

of our war

shrieks its

glorious pain

bites our

love

gnaws with

sullen fury

rends

in pieces

reaches out

with talons

scrawls

our names

the lifeblood

of our emotions

true

curling strokes

carved in

the flesh

our convictions

burnt in flavours

our tragedy

the glory

of our grievous

need

broken

the steel

of our war

rent

the tear of

our fabric

alone

I stand

looking

at myself

seeing

only you
