Last night I did something I had never done before - I completed a game twice. And that game was The Last of Us, a PS3 exclusive post-apocalyptic third-person epic. And it is magnificent; the visuals and audio are fantastic and yet they get left behind by the story, which itself is superbly written and played out. I don't think I have ever been grabbed by a game/story/characters in quite the way I have with the Last of Us. I am pretty sure I haven't.
It is also one of the most intense games I have ever played, and the tension in the second play-through was only lessened a touch by knowing what was coming next. I have never, ever worried so much that characters weren't going to make it, and the end gave me such a sense of relief and joy and sadness that I can't begin to describe it.
If you haven't played it, do so. It is a game worth buying the PS3 for.
